When Oshkosh Truck was awarded the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program, we knew things were going to change at Hinz. Prototypes had been produced, small production runs ensued, and in 2019 full out manufacturing commenced. We had been entrusted to produce a high-quality piston delivered on time – all the time.
Two pistons are required per caliper and 49,000 vehicles are scheduled to be made by Oshkosh Truck. To stay ahead of that demand Hinz employed two turning centers with robotic loaders, each dedicated to running 90 plus hours a week.
Carefully machined to tight tolerances and handled with such care as to not create any marks, scratches, or dents, the pistons are completed in one single operation including turning, milling, deburring and maintaining a tight window finish on the outside surface.
